Think of a recent time when you got angry with your child, raised your voice or said something you regret. It does not have to be the worst time.

Why does it work?
Havighurst, Wilson, Harley, Prior & Kehoe (2010), Tuning in to Kids: Improving emotion socialization practices in parents of preschool children – findings from a community trial, Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry 51(12), 1342–1350: cluster-randomised study with 216 parents (96% mothers) of children aged 4–5. Six group sessions in emotion coaching led to less dismissive and more coaching responses to children's negative emotions, and fewer parent-reported behaviour problems, compared with the waitlist. The repair conversation is an application, not a tested method. If you are afraid of harming your child, seek support.
