Why does it work?
Progressive muscle relaxation (Jacobson, modernized by Bernstein & Borkovec) is one of the most researched relaxation methods: meta-analyses show moderate effects on anxiety and stress (Manzoni et al. 2008), and applied relaxation built on PMR (Öst 1987) has RCT support. The effect comes with regular practice — a single session mostly gives a taste of it.
