Why does it work?
Deliberately identifying and scheduling what gives energy and positive feelings goes together with better wellbeing over time. It is the basic idea of behavioral activation and of Fredrickson’s broaden-and-build theory of positive emotions (2001). Rating and selecting the strongest sources, rather than relying on memory, has not been studied as such, but builds on the same principle: made visible, it becomes easier to use.
