Why does it work?
Locus of control (Rotter 1966) is a classic concept that is still in use: an internal locus of control is linked to better mental health, health behaviors and work outcomes in meta-analyses (Ng et al. 2006). This rating is a simplified self-reflection, not Rotter's scale. The nuance about accurate rather than maximal control follows later research.
