Why does it work?
In Snyder's hope theory, hope is described as a combination of the will to reach a goal and the ability to see several routes toward it. In a study of 96 students, a goal-pursuit hope intervention (a single 90-minute session) was compared with a relaxation group and a control group, with measurements before, after and one month later. The exercise here is a single small moment from such a design, so studies suggest the method can strengthen hope, but the effect of two minutes has not been studied. Testing the efficacy of a single-session goal-pursuit intervention for college students, Journal of Happiness Studies 13(4), 745-759.
