Why does it work?
The division into social and emotional loneliness comes from Weiss (1973) and is still in use. Long-term loneliness is a health risk factor on a par with established risk factors (Holt-Lunstad 2015), and interventions that work on the interpretation of social situations have the best support (meta-analysis: Masi 2011).
