Why does it work?
Post, International Journal of Behavioral Medicine (2005): a review showing that altruism and volunteering correlate with wellbeing and health. Dunn, Aknin & Norton, Science (2008): experimental support that prosocial spending increases happiness. The effect sizes are moderate; the exercise promises a direction, not salvation.
