The ObservatoryElin and the other voice
Replacing her inner critic with a voice she already had.
Elin had a voice in her head that never took a break, not even on holiday. If she missed a deadline: typical you, always late with everything. If she said something clumsy in a meeting: everyone noticed that, you're ridiculous. The voice had followed her for so long that she had never even questioned whether it was actually true. It was simply there, constant, like weather you've stopped noticing.
What got her thinking seriously was, somewhat unexpectedly, her own daughter. Six-year-old Alva dropped a plate in the kitchen one ordinary Tuesday and said at once, with tears already in her throat: 'I'm so stupid, I always ruin everything I touch'. Elin heard her own voice come out of her daughter's mouth, almost word for word, and felt a chill through her whole body that nothing else in her life had managed to produce in quite the same way.
